Core Gameplay and Strategic Systems

Gameplay revolves around matching three or more colored tiles on the combat board to trigger attacks from your deployed heroes. Each hero is permanently assigned a specific color that corresponds to their attack type, making board management a direct extension of your team strategy. Creating matches of four or more tiles, or triggering cascading combos, generates increased damage and charges each character’s unique special ability. You must strategically assemble teams of heroes whose colors synergize, as fielding multiple heroes of the same color amplifies the damage of matching those tiles, allowing for focused, high-damage assaults against powerful bosses.

Progression is driven by collecting character cards to unlock and upgrade the full roster from the series. Over twenty distinct heroes are available to discover, each with upgradable stats and special skills that activate after a certain number of matches. You will guide your party through key locations from the show, facing waves of Demodogs, Demogorgons, and other horrors in a bid to reclaim Hawkins. Strategic resource management is required to enhance your favorite characters, prioritize skill upgrades, and construct the optimal team composition for different levels and enemy types within the Upside Down.
